The NHS has looked after people across the nation for over 70 years. We’re still going strong, however, we’re also going through an unprecedented period of change.
The UK population is living longer, our services are needed more than ever, and we have to achieve efficiency savings of £20 billion over the next few years. It’s a huge challenge, and to help meet it, we’re taking a more collaborative and supportive approach. It also means we have to make sure the need for health leaders is met and that they are trained and developed to raise the profile, performance, and impact on health and social care in England.

Leadership consultant, Peter Drucker explains “There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. That means constantly asking: why are we doing it like this? is there a better way?” As a GMTS Trainee, you will work towards becoming a future leader of our NHS and to help us to keep finding the better way.
The NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme has been running since 1958. It’s produced many inspirational leaders, including Sir David Nicholson, former Chief Executive of the NHS, and it’s created lots of life-defining opportunities for those that have started their NHS careers here and professional relationships that have lasted decades and through many challenges.
