“Everyone I know comes into work wanting to do the best they can to benefit patients.”
Our vision is of an NHS that is responsive to the needs of our society and continues to deliver a world class health service based upon our core values. We strive to shape our services around the needs and preferences of our patients, develop inspirational leaders and drive up standards, whilst delivering better value for money and creating a healthier nation.
We want all of our people to share in the principles that underpin everything we do, to help the NHS become faster, smarter, more efficient, effective and flexible. And most crucially, we’ll be better placed to put patients at the heart of everything we do.
To realise our vision, we’re continuing to implement one of the biggest change agendas ever seen. The publication of the government’s white paper “Equity and Excellence – Liberating the NHS”, and The Health and Social Care Bill 2011, set some huge challenges for the NHS and how we operate – including estimated efficiency savings of £20 billion.
The 2014 NHS Five Year Forward View set out a vision for the future of the NHS. It was developed by the partner organisations that deliver and oversee health and care services including NHS England, Public Health England, Monitor, Health Education England, the Care Quality Commission and the NHS Trust Development Authority. In addition, patient groups, clinicians and independent experts have provided their advice to create a collective view of how the health service needs to change over the next five years if it’s to close the widening gaps in the health of the population, quality of care and the funding of services.
The need for cost savings combined with an emphasis on improved quality means that existing budgets are under considerable pressure. However, the demand for quality healthcare and exceptional leadership to drive change is even more crucial.
The future of the NHS heavily relies on strong leadership and clear direction, and with a graduate Scheme designed to nurture the next generation of NHS leaders. We’re already taking steps to ensure that we have exceptional senior management talent in place across the organisation. This is the first set of national programmes to combine successful leadership strategies from international healthcare and private sector organisations, with academic expert content.
The demand to ensure quality future leaders is great. We are looking for the next 300 Trainees to join us from September 2022.
