The GMTS demands much from its Trainees, you will become our emerging leaders. The work, training and study you will undergo are important, detailed and complex. We will demand that you meet very high standards throughout your GMTS journey, and we will support you all along the way.
We’ve thought carefully about how we reward our Trainees in return – in addition to SEVEN levels of support you will receive from our GMTS Teams throughout the Scheme – here is an overview of the reward package we offer you from day one in September 2021.
You’ll receive a starting salary of £24,628 from September 2021, plus the Higher Cost of Living Allowance, or HICA, where applicable. There is also an opportunity to earn a 5% pay rise 12 months – and after 24 months for GMTS Finance Trainees – subject to satisfactory performance on the Scheme
27 days’ holiday
Plus eight national Bank and Public holidays. Capped annual leave protection is also available for eligible NHS in-service staff too.
Fully financially supported study package
You’ll study for at least one professional qualification during your Scheme. We will fund it entirely, so it is free to you, and we will give you study leave in addition to your 27 days annual leave.
Extensive on-the-job training
Training and development is an enormous priority at the NHS. There are many training and development opportunities available throughout your time on the Scheme. Some in a structured and classroom format, but a much of it on-the-job. You will get to get to work with – and learn from – experts and leaders from all over the NHS, as well as receiving levels of decision-making responsibility that will take your career forward impressively.
Some of you may think it is early too think about this. However, we will automatically enrol you onto the NHS’s highly regarded pension scheme when you start with us in September 2020. The amount you contribute to your pension is based on your pensionable earnings and you are able to opt-out.
When you join us we’ll give you access to an exclusive NHS Staff website offering discounts and savings on a range of products, services and leisure activities. The organisations in which you have placements may also be able to offer you local discounts.
Sports clubs have always been part of life for NHS leaders. Whichever part of the country you work in, you’re sure to find a team or a sport that’s right for you.
Capped salary protection for NHS in-service staff
If you’re a current NHS in-service staff member and you are employed in the NHS on 1 December 2019, with a minimum of 12 months’ service, you may be eligible for pay protection. Protection is up to 85% of the top of Band 6, based on your average basic salary over 3 months prior to starting the Scheme (excluding HICA – Higher Cost of Living Allowance which may be added on top of your salary depending on which region you are working in, e.g. parts of London)
Interest-free season-ticket loan
If you have expensive travel costs each year to get to work, we can help you spread the cost with an interest-free loan. Buying a season ticket in advance also reduces your cost-per-journey down significantly. We’ll provide you with the total amount for your season ticket and then deduct monthly payments directly from your net pay.
Vouchers help you to reduce your childcare costs. You can buy up to £243 worth of tax-free childcare vouchers monthly which you then use with your registered childcare provider directly to reduce your fees. Our Childcare Voucher scheme saves you money because the value of your vouchers is deducted from your pay before Income Tax and National Insurance.
